Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
1. Who we are
Fictorial is run by Great Unknown LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions go to ben@fictorial.app.
2. What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we get these, and your profile picture, from your Google account | To create your account and let you sign in |
| Your Content | Manuscripts you upload, the text and structure we extract from them, your conversations, notes, and Story Map | To provide the Service |
| Billing details | Subscription status and history. Card and billing details go directly to Link (Stripe); we never see or store your full card number | So Link can charge you, and so we can manage your access |
| Usage information | Features used, AI usage and cost per account, errors, device and browser type, IP address | To keep the Service working, secure, and affordable |
| How you found us | The link or website that brought you to sign up (for example a newsletter link or a search engine) and the first page you visited | To learn which channels bring writers to Fictorial |
| Messages to us | Support emails and feedback | To help you and improve Fictorial |
We use only essential cookies: to keep you signed in, to protect against forgery, and to remember your first name for the sign-in page.
To count visits to fictorial.app we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, doesn’t identify you, and doesn’t follow you to other sites. It runs on this website only, never inside the app where your manuscript lives.
3. How your manuscript is handled
- Stored privately. Your uploads, and the text we extract from them, are stored in our database and file storage, tied to your account.
- Sent to AI providers only as needed. When you use an AI feature, we send the relevant passages and your question to Anthropic or OpenAI to generate a response. We don’t send your manuscript anywhere else.
- Never used to train AI. We don’t train models on your work. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms and OpenAI’s API data policy, they don’t use our customers’ data for training, and we have not opted in to any data sharing. These providers may keep data for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, then delete it.
- Never sold or published. We don’t sell, rent, or share Your Content for advertising or marketing.
- Limited human access. We don’t read your manuscript as a matter of course. Our small team may access your account data when you ask for help, when needed to fix a problem, to investigate abuse or security issues, or if the law requires it.
For a plain-language walk through the whole path, read exactly what happens to your manuscript.
4. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers who help us run Fictorial, and with Link, which sells our subscriptions, and only what each needs:
- AI providers: Anthropic and OpenAI, to generate responses
- Hosting: Railway, which runs our servers and database
- Payments: Link (Sold through Link, LLC, a Stripe company), which sells and charges for subscriptions and Revision Packs on our behalf and handles payment support and tax. Link collects your payment and billing details directly and uses them as an independent controller under its own privacy policy (link.com/privacy (opens in a new tab)), and shares order details with us
- Sign-in: Google, which confirms your identity when you choose to sign in with Google
- Email: Resend, which sends your sign-in links and account notices, and Zoho, which hosts our email, including support messages
- Site analytics: Cloudflare, which counts visits to fictorial.app without cookies
- Newsletter: Substack, which sends Fictorial’s newsletter if you ask for it. It receives only your email address.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect anyone’s safety or our legal rights, or to a buyer or successor if the business is sold or reorganized. In that case, this policy would continue to protect your data.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account and Your Content while your account is open. You can delete a manuscript at any time. If your free trial ends or your subscription becomes inactive, we keep Your Content for at least 90 days so you can export it or come back to it; after that, we may delete it. If you close your account, we delete Your Content within 30 days, except for copies in routine backups, which expire on their normal schedule, and records we must keep for tax, legal, or fraud-prevention reasons, such as billing history.
6. Your choices and rights
You can view and export your notes, delete manuscripts, and close your account at any time. You can also email ben@fictorial.app to ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and we’ll respond within 30 days. For payment details held by Link, ask Link; a deletion request to Link also cancels any subscription bought through it. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under local law, such as California or EU/UK law. We’ll honor those rights as required. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context advertising.
The newsletter is optional and off unless you ask for it. You can stop it at any time with the unsubscribe link in any issue, which works straight away, or in Preferences, which takes effect within a week. Closing your Fictorial account doesn’t unsubscribe you from the newsletter, because Substack sends it; use the unsubscribe link.
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and server-tracked sign-in sessions. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your own copy of your work. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you as the law requires.
8. Children
Fictorial is for adults 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a minor has signed up, contact us and we’ll delete the account.
9. Where data is processed
Fictorial is run from the United States, and our providers process data mainly in the United States. If you use Fictorial from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll post the new version with a new effective date and tell you by email or in the app before they take effect.
